Designers and fashion enthusiasts flocked down south to Gore on the 24th of July to be part of the Hokonui Fashion awards, a highlight of the national fashion calendar.
Running since 1988, the event is now its 32nd year and continues to attract entries and interest from throughout New Zealand.
With 240 entries in 11 categories the judging panel, comprised of designers Sarah-Jane Duff, James Dobson and Kathryn Wilson, had their hands full selecting the winners.
First time entrant (of any fashion event), Arina Terekhova, was the winner of the Mackersy Property Collection Award and the Mataura Licensing Trust Award of Excellence.
The Christchurch designer’s collection was duly named ‘Urban Forager’ and featured printed forest leaves and natural fibres including New Zealand merino and silk. The collection, which was inspired by her upbringing in Siberia, wowed the judges with its innovativeness, skill, timelessness and sustainability.
Mackersy Property’s own Adam Copland was there to present to award on the night.
