The Mackersy Property team have had a busy weekend supporting their community in Christchurch.
The team began their weekend on Friday cooking dinner for approximately 40 people at Ronald McDonald House which houses children and their family members staying at Christchurch Hospital.
After deciding on their menu of cheesy mince pasta with coleslaw and ice cream sundaes for dessert, the Mackersy team shopped, prepped, and served their delicious meal. They then cleaned up the kitchen and dining room.
The Ronald McDonald Family Dinner Programme brings groups of people together to cook for the families of those in residence. It is a great experience for those who volunteer and much appreciated by the families.
The Team then joined in the Yellow Rose Run/Walk on Sunday morning. The event was organized by Zonta to raise funds for the GRC (Grandparents Raising Children) Trust NZ.
There are over 12,000 children in New Zealand who cannot be raised by their parents and consequently 8,500 caregivers caring for them. Many of those caregivers are grandparents. The GRC Trust provides support and education programmes to over 5,200 grandparent and whanau care families nationwide.
With Zonta’s Support: GRG’s SALT Education Programme (Simply Acquired & Learned Techniques) for Grandparents provides practical insights and understanding of the impact of past trauma on children, helping carers to understand and deal with troubling and challenging behaviour.
The fun run/walk was held in North Hagley Park and Mackersy Property was well represented by 8 of its Christchurch Team and their families with Mia de Vries representing Mackersy Property and coming in first place for the women’s 5km run!
A rewarding weekend for all involved.
